JOIN US FOR THE FIRST ANNUAL SPA FIELD TRIP, THURSDAY
EVENING JUNE 4 THROUGH SUNDAY JUNE 7
OHIO MOUND BUILDERS
SPA Presidents, Dr. John Nass and
Dr. Sarah Neusius are planning an exciting long weekend
for SPA members and their families and friends this
June. Beginning with an Introductory Session on mound
builders held at IUP, followed by a get Acquainted
Social Hour on the evening of June 4, this field trip by
chartered bus will include stops at the Grave Creek
Archaeological Park in Moundsville, West Virginia, NPS
excavations at the Hopewell site near Chillicothe, Ohio,
the Serpent Mound in Peebles, Ohio, Fort Ancient
Archaeological Park in Oregonia, Ohio, Seip Mound near
Chillicothe, Ohio, the Hopewell National Culture
Historical Park at Mound City in Chillicothe, Ohio and
the Newark Earthworks in Newark Ohio. Dr. Bret Ruby,
NPS archaeologist will lead a tour of excavations at the
Hopewell Site and Dr. Robert Riordan, Wright State
University, will lead our tour at the Fort Ancient
site. Dr. Bradley Lepper, Ohio Historical Society, will
give a lecture on Friday night on the Great Hopewell
Road, and Dr. Jarrod Burks, Ohio Valley Archaeological
Consultants, will discuss geophysical Investigations of
Hopewel Site on Saturday night.
The cost for this trip is $250 for
SPA members and each member may bring one other
individual along at the member price. You must be a
member of the parent organization rather than simply a
chapter member to take advantage of this price. The
cost for non-members is $300. These fees are for double
occupancy rooms. If you desire single occupancy ($350
for members and $400 for non-members). This fee includes
transportation by bus, two nights hotel double
occupancy, two breakfasts, three box lunches, all
entrance and other fees, lectures and site tours. There
also are optional accommodations with a free hot
breakfast at the Park Inn by Radisson in Indiana for
Thursday night June 4 at $118.00 with tax for a double
room.
A $100 deposit is due for all participants by May 25.

Please note this trip will require
a moderate amount of walking but no strenuous activity.
Participants should be in generally good health. More
