The Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology, Inc. was organized in 1929 to: Promote the study of the prehistoric and historic archaeological resources of Pennsylvania and neighboring states; Encourage scientific research and discourage exploration which is unscientific or irresponsible in intent or practice; Promote the conservation of archaeological sites, artifacts, and information; Encourage the establishment and maintenance of sources of archaeological information such as museums, societies, and educational programs; Promote the dissemination of archaeological knowledge by means of publications and forums; Foster the exchange of information between the professional and the avocational archaeologists.


THE SOCIETY FOR PENNSYLVANIA ARCHAEOLOGY

80th ANNUAL MEETING

April 3-5, 2009

Harrisburg, Pa.

        The meeting and all events will be held in the State Museum of Pennsylvania. The Comfort Inn on Front Street in Harrisburg has been selected as the hotel for the conference. They are offering a special rate of $79 per night and parking is free. Reservations can be made by calling 717-233-1611.  Identify yourself as being with the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology. The rate is in effect until March 20, 2009. The hotel is six blocks from the State Museum.

The banquet speaker will be Bruce Bomberger, Curator, Landis Valley Museum. He will speak on the French and Indian War Forts of Pennsylvania

CALL FOR PAPERS

The theme of the 80th annual meeting will be "The Archaeology of Penn's Woods".  SPA registrants are invited to attend the PAC symposium on Friday afternoon. This years PAC theme will be the Archaeology of the Terminal Archaic/Transitional Period. There will be two open sessions, Saturday morning and Sunday morning. The Saturday afternoon session will be devoted to archaeology of the French and Indian War.  Anyone wishing to participate should send abstracts of 150 words or fewer to the Program Chair by March 1, 2009. Note that all presenters at the Annual Meeting must be members of SPA for 2009 and be preregistered for the meeting.  SPA membership does not include meeting registration.
