The Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology, Inc. was organized in 1929 to: Promote the study of the prehistoric and historic archaeological resources of Pennsylvania and neighboring states; Encourage scientific research and discourage exploration which is unscientific or irresponsible in intent or practice; Promote the conservation of archaeological sites, artifacts, and information; Encourage the establishment and maintenance of sources of archaeological information such as museums, societies, and educational programs; Promote the dissemination of archaeological knowledge by means of publications and forums; Foster the exchange of information between the professional and the avocational archaeologists.

The meeting will be dedicated to the memory of the late Richard L. George, who passed away in 2009.

Accommodations
:  Four Points by Sheraton Greensburg - located at 100 Sheraton Drive, Greensburg, PA, just off Route 30 - is offering a special room rate of $82 per night, and parking is free. Reservations can be made by calling (724) 836-6060.  Reservations must be made with the Hotel by Thursday, March 18, 2010.  Identify yourself as being with the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.

Saturday Banquet:  The guest banquet speaker will be Dr. Bernard K. Means, Virginia Commonwealth University/Versar, Inc..  His topic is “Digging During America’s Darkest Days: Roosevelt’s New Deal and American Archaeology”
Auction:   Items for the auction should be brought to the book room for display.   We are requesting that each chapter consider providing an auction item(s) to help support the Erb Permanent Fund.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The theme of the 81st Annual Meeting will be "Archaeology Along Pennsylvania's Streams, Rivers and Hills".  There will be three open sessions, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.  Anyone wishing to present a paper should send an email abstract of 150 words or less to the Program Chair by March 1, 2010.  Presenters must be a paid up member of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.
