Submission Guidelines for
Pennsylvania Archaeologist
Pennsylvania Archaeologist welcomes manuscript submissions for
publication. Topics should ideally be related to Pennsylvania
archaeology and may include site reports, regional studies, artifact
studies, artifacts description/photos, etc. Position papers,
rebuttals, or editorials will not be accepted for publication without
prior permission from the Editor. News items and announcements
should not be submitted to Pennsylvania Archaeologist, but are
appropriate for the SPA newsletter. All submissions to
Pennsylvania Archaeologist should be sent to the Editor and submitted
in accordance with the following guidelines:
- Please submit three copies of the manuscript on paper to
the
Editor. Manuscripts should be single-spaced with black type, 10 point
Times New Roman font.
- In addition to paper copies, a computer file of the text
(Microsoft
Word or rtf files please) should be included with the submission. An
electronic
submission is not essential if this is a hardship, but is strongly
encouraged.
- Manuscripts should not exceed 25 pages in length
(single-spaced),
including illustrations, photographs, and references, unless special
permission
is granted in advance by the Editor.
- Clean, black and white, camera-ready, hard-copy images are
our
preferred format for submitted photographs and illustrations. Color
photographs
or images can be submitted, but will be published in black and white.
Electronic
images submitted on CD may be accepted, but must be tiff or eps files
at
300 dpi resolution or higher and at 100% size.
- Reference citation format follows American Antiquity style
(see
any issue from Pennsylvania Archaeologist Volume 69 or beyond).
- Submitted manuscripts should be exclusive to Pennsylvania
Archaeologist
(i.e. not submitted to other journals for publication).
- Submissions related to archaeology in Pennsylvania are
preferred,
although articles relating to other areas will be considered.
- Approval of submissions for publication is at the sole
discretion
of the Editor.
- If the submission is approved for publication, the author
will
be required to assign all copyrights related to the submission to The
Society
for Pennsylvania Archaeology prior to publication.
- Submitted materials will not be returned to the author
whether
or not the submission is approved for publication, so authors should
make
copies of all materials prior to submission.
- All materials should be submitted to the Editor at the
following
address: Bill Tippins, 1090 Freeport Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238. Feel
free
to contact the Editor at wtippins@verizon.net
or 412-784-8818.
