| Board of Directors ESAF 2000 Solomons, Maryland November 3, 2000 The meeting of the Board of Directors of the Society was called to order at 4:50 p.m. with President William Johnson presiding. A quorum was present (attendance attached). The minutes from the August Board of Directors meeting were accepted as distributed on a motion by Mark McConaughy and seconded by Verna Cowin. The Treasurer?s and Elmer Erb Permanent Fund reports were unavailable. Finance/Grant Status- Verna Cowin reported that Paul Nevin with permission from the Society has a grant application pending with the PHMC for the work on the Safe Harbor Petroglyphs. Arrangements to administer the grant will be made if the grant application is funded. 2000 Archaeology Month Report-General consensus of a successful event. A report from City Island and statewide activities will be forthcoming. Revision of the Society's Constitution-Work is progressing. Committee members should send their reports to Verna Cowin or Judy Duritsa for inclusion in the final revision. Timetable remains at a projected 2002 Annual Meeting membership vote. Treasurer's appointment- With the resignation of Mary Ann Mogus, the President has appointed Paul Cowin as treasurer. Paul is willing to take over the position and stand for election at the Annual Meeting in 2001. The Society's new mailing address is in the Lawrenceville Post Office.
This location is convenient for the new treasurer and members from the Carnegie
and regional Pittsburgh. Nominating Committee report- Mark McConaughy reports that several people have been asked to serve in offices for the election in 2001. Some responses are still pending. Several people were asked to serve or recruit someone to serve from their chapters. The final slate of officers will be announced to the membership in the SPA Newsletter. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor at the time of election. Carnegie Appeal/ Allegheny #1- Amanda Valko reported that the final letter to request a display of local Southwestern Native Americans at the Carnegie in Pittsburgh is in its final draft. She will circulate the letter and ask the Society and its Chapters to support the effort. New Business Pennsylvania Internet Development approached the Society to subscribe to biweekly email newsletters from groups with similar "tourism" interests. After a brief discussion, it was decided that the society would probably not benefit greatly from receiving this newsletter. Discussion for the Good of the Society Philip Perazio asked for suggestions from members for a banquet speaker for the Annual Meeting in 2001. Roger Moeller entered a motion for the Board of Directors to authorize the transfer of the non-profit organization resolution statement to open and maintain accounts on behalf of the Society to enable the transfer of accounts for the new treasurer, Paul Cowin. Seconded by Noel Strattan. PASSED Announcements: Herbert C. Kraft passed away on October 31, 2000. A condolence note from the Society will be send to his family. John Shrader, life member is ill.
